A madrassa student, who was stabbed four days ago over a trivial issue in Aliganj area in the city, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday. The victim Ilias Hossain Mintu, 20, class VIII student of Mohishbathan Hafezia Madrassa, had fatal injuries on his head and other parts of the body, said RMCH sources. On November 11, a group of Aliganj villagers of Poba upazila stabbed him while he was going to the house of Haragram UP member Mainul Islam. A case was filed with Rajpara Police Station in this connection. Mintu was stabbed as he was hired by neighbouring Gucchogram village for playing a football match between Guchchogram and Aliganj villages earlier on the day, according to the case statement. As the news of Mintu's death spread, people from Aliganj village gathered at RMCH morgue and brought out a procession taking his body. The protesters alleged that the UP member was involved in the murder and blamed police for forcing the victim's family members not to make him accuse in the case. Mokarram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station, refuted the allegation of favouring the UP member. The protesters met Rajshahi's Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hannan who assured them of justice.
