Investigation starts
The Detective Branch (DB) of police has started investigation into the case filed against suspended Sitakunda sub-inspector Md Shahed Ali and his wife Sweety Begum for torturing a 10-year-old housemaid.
Bijon Kumar Barua, sub-inspector of Chittagong DB police and the investigation officer, recorded the interview of the victim Romela Khatun in Pabna Medical College Hospital yesterday.
Romela described to police how Shahed's wife Sweety Begum tortured her now and then and burnt her body with a Khunti (one kind of spoon) and hot water, said SI Barua. He said interviews of the victim's parents and the locals will also be taken.
ASP of Chittagong, Nur-e-Alam Mina, said the accused police officer Shahed Ali did not report to Sitakunda Police Station yesterday. “We hope that the he would report to Chittagong police very soon. We have already started the official inquiry against him”.
On Saturday night, Chittagong police suspended SI Shahed Ali on charge of torturing Romela Khatun. Police have yet to find the whereabouts of Shahed and his wife Sweety Begum.
