Contraband substances stolen at govt laboratory
A large quantity of contraband substances and controlled beverages has been stolen from the store of Central Chemical Laboratory of the Directorate of Narcotics Control in the capital's Gendaria.
Sources said controlled beverages, banned drug Phensidyle and cannabis, which were seized, are among the missing items.
DNC officials said that the missing items were supposed to be produced before the court as evidence and the theft could weaken a lot of cases filed by the narcotics controller.
The contraband items were sent to the lab for chemical tests, required for investigation in the cases.
The DNC authorities on Monday formed a four-member committee to unearth the mystery behind the incident. Chief of the Central Chemical Laboratory Abdul Khalek filed a general diary with Gendaria Police Station on Saturday.
The chief in the diary mentioned that the items were stolen early Saturday.
Talking to The Daily Star Khalek said the thieves entered the store at the ground floor of the laboratory building by cutting the iron grills and breaking the glass walls.
He said they were yet to ascertain how many pieces of evidence went missing.
