Three factories fined

A mobile court yesterday in a drive fined a bakery and two manufacturers of drinking water Tk one lakh for manufacturing the products unwholesomely. Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), with the help of district administration and police led executive magistrate Al-Amin conducted the drives in the city's Mirpur, Kafrul and Adabar. Separate cases have been filed against the owners, says a press release. BSTI sealed Sharif and co. and fined its owner Tk 25,000 with filing a case against its owner for not renew its licence and manufacturing water without any purification measures. About 80 water filled jars were also destroyed. The mobile court fined the owner of Jahid Hasan Bakery Tk 25,000 and filed case against him for producing cake and bread in unhealthy environment. A case was filed against the owner of the Reliable Pure Drinking Water for not renewing its licence and producing water in unsafe condition using the logo of BSTI. The team also destroyed about 360 water filled jars. A mobile court last year fined the owner of Reliable Pure Drinking Water Tk 3 lakh and awarded him 6 months imprisonment for the same reasons. BSTI also fined the manager of Mr Baker Tk 50,000 as there was no production and expiry dates and batch no in its products.
