Today is the 35th death anniversary of veteran political leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani. Our Tangail correspondent reports: Different socio-political organisations are marking the day with programmes, including placing of wreaths at the leader's grave at Santosh in Tangail. Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) and different local organisations organised a five-day programme at Santosh, including milad mahfil, discussions, feeding of the destitute, blood donation and photo exhibition. Moreover, Bhasani Foundation is holding a five-day Bhasani Mela at MBSTU campus from November 13 to 17. President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia issued separate messages yesterday expressing profound respect to the memory of the late national leader. Praying for his eternal peace, they recalled Bhasani's lifelong struggle to realise the rights of repressed people. Born in 1880 in Dhangara village of Sirajganj, the self-educated Bhasani founded and was president of Pakistan Awami Muslim League, which later became Awami League.
