CU provost resigns
Prof S M Salamat Ullah Bhuiyan, provost of Shahjalal Hall of Chittagong University (CU), resigned yesterday.
He submitted his resignation letter in the morning showing personal reasons, said CU acting Registrar Professor Dr Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
Contacted, the provost confirmed the same.
He, however, said he had to remain in the hall at all times to look into the chaos and incidents of chasing and counter-chasing among the hall students.
At the moment, he does not have enough time to spend in the hall, as he resides in the city, he added.
Campus sources said commotion among the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) activists of Shahjalal Hall forced the provost to resign.
Mentionable, there have occurred night-long incidents of chasing and counter-chasing among the two rival groups on October 25.
