Deal with 2 Indian firms signed

Bangladesh Railway (BR) yesterday signed a deal with two Indian companies for designing and monitoring construction of two exclusive rail bridges on Meghna and Titas rivers. The Tk 45 crore project also includes conducting feasibility study and preparing tender document on the second Bhairab and Titas bridges. The bridges will be constructed at a cost of Tk 959 crore against the billion-dollar line of credit extended by India. Bangladesh Railway signed the agreement with India's STUP Consultants (Pvt) Ltd and Scott Wilson India (Pvt) Limited. Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, Secretary of Railway Division Fazle Kabir and Director General of BR Abu Taher were present at the signing ceremony. The deal is part of the government's mega-project to upgrade the Dhaka-Chittagong single-line track to double lines. According to the deal, the two companies will finalise the design in the next six months and complete the construction of the two bridges in 33 months.
