'Bhasani dreamt of poverty- free Bangladesh'
The 35th death anniversary of veteran political leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani was observed in the country yesterday.
Marking the day, different political, social and cultural organisations arranged various programmes at Bhasani's mosque in Santosh where thousands of admirers from across the country paid their homage, reports our Tangail correspondent.
Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) Vice-chancellor Prof M Nurul Islam and Bhasani's family members placed wreaths on his grave at Santosh.
Also, Bhasani Foundation organised five-day long programmes to pay tribute to the legendary leader.
The programmes included wreath placing, milad mahfil, special prayer, destitute feeding, discussion meeting, blood donation programme, photo exhibition and fair.
BNP also organised a discussion meeting on the mosque premises where the party acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressed.
Meanwhile in the capital, Workers' Party of Bangladesh organised a discussion at Shaheed Asad auditorium.
Also, Bangladesh Jatiya Sattra Dal organised a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club, Jatiya Ganotantrik League and Sadhana Sangsad held a discussion at Moitree auditorium.
Bhasani believed in secularism and dreamt to establish a Bangladesh where there would be no poverty and where women rights will be ensured, said discussants in the programme.
Born in 1880 at village Dhangara in Sirajganj, Bhasani dedicated his entire life to establishing the rights of the oppressed and the downtrodden. He died on November 17, 1976.
