Comilla city polls schedule next week likely
The Election Commission (EC) is likely to announce the schedule of Comilla City Corporation election next week as legal complications over redrawing boundaries of the newly formed corporation have been solved.
“The problem has been solved,” Election Commissioner M Sakhawat Hossain told reporters after a meeting at the EC secretariat yesterday.
Asked about the city corporation election, he advised people to wait for a few days.
His answer came following a letter sent by the EC requesting the Local Government Division (LGD) to take initiatives to solve the problem.
Problems arose when some areas of ward no 22 and 24 of CCC were left out of the gazette published by the LGD earlier.
The city corporation was formed comprising Comilla municipality and Comilla Sadar municipality on July 10 this year following a longstanding demand.
There is a legal obligation to hold the election within 180 days after its declaration as a city corporation.
