President Zillur Rahman yesterday called for involving youths in cooperative movement to accelerate socio-economic progress of the country. In a message on the eve of the 40th National Cooperatives Day, he said the youths, a large segment of the country's total population, should be engaged with economic activities through providing them proper education, training and other facilities. Cooperatives are playing an important role in the socio-economic development of the country, the president said, adding the youth community will make valuable contributions to build a poverty-free prosperous Bangladesh through cooperatives. He wished all programmes of the day a success. In a separate message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the present government is firmly committed to building a poverty- free progressive and non-communal Bangladesh through increasing production and creating employment opportunities. She said cooperatives could play an important role in achieving the targets.
