Ctg fire kills girl

A devastating fire killed a minor girl and gutted five houses at Jele Para of Dakshin Kattali in Pahartali area in the port city yesterday. The victim is Sharmin Akhtar, 5, daughter of Abdus Sattar, of Muradnagar in Comilla. Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from Sejni (the fire used for generating smoke against mosquito menace) at a cattle house around 12:00 midnight and soon engulfed the nearby houses and a godown. Pahartali Police Station OC Babul Chandra Banik said the victim could not come out of house as she was asleep during the fire. Fire fighters extinguished the flame around 2:00am after two hours of hectic efforts. The fire brigade estimated the loss caused by the fire worth Tk 12 lakh.
