Five people were injured as a gang of miscreants attacked the traders and employees of a fish market at Merul Badda in the city yesterday. Three of the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while two others were given first aid at a local clinic in the area. Meer Fakrul Alam, president of Merul Badda Fish Market Owners Welfare Association, told the correspondent that a gang of 15 to 20 criminals attacked the traders and workers of the market, leaving five traders and employees injured. He said the fish traders blocked the road near the market for half an hour protesting the attack and demanding arrest of the culprits. They withdrew the blockade following assurance from police. Fakrul alleged that a local group led by one Shahin had killed his brother in January, 2009. The group was pressing to withdraw the murder case when they sat to settle a matter over a recent altercation between a trader and a member of the group.
