War crimes trial to free nation from another stigma: PM

Unb, Dhaka
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday sought the cooperation of all professionals in holding the trial of war criminals saying that it would free the nation from another stigma. “No area of the country was spared from their [war criminals] atrocities during the Liberation War in 1971 and the people of the country who were subjected to their tortures can never forget that,” she said. The premier was addressing the Grand Rally and Convention 2011 of Jatiya Peshajibi Samonnoy Parishad at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in the city. Hasina said the country needs to be freed from the grip of the evil forces as trial of the war criminals is the popular demand. After election in 2001, the prime minister said, Bangladesh had turned into a land of militancy and terrorism under the leadership of BNP's ally Jamaat-e-Islami. After assuming office, the present government has freed the country from the stigma of militancy and thus brightened its image abroad, she added.
