Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be visiting Rajshahi on November 24 with day-long programmes in the city. This is the PM's first visit there since assuming power. On the day, she will address a public meeting at Madrasa Maidan, said Rajshahi city Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton at a press conference. She will also inaugurate the newly set up 50-megawatt (MW) Katakhali Power Plant and lay the foundation stone of another 50-MW power plant to be constructed at the same site by Power Development Board. Hasina will join the 10th anniversary of Bangladesh Infantry Regiment at Rajshahi Cantonment. She will also lay the foundation of a dormitory for female students of Rajshahi University. The PM is likely to address the 14-point demand for development of the country's north-western part, said Liton. The demands, including declaring Rajshahi as a special economic zone and non-stop Dhaka-Rajshahi train service, were jointly prepared by the mayor and seven lawmakers of Rajshahi, he said. The PM's visit is crucial as it would have a mark on the future development of the region, he added.
