BBC Janala, the English language learning programme launched by BBC World Service Trust, Bangladesh, won the prestigious World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) award in recognition of their innovative approach and positive impact on education. WISE, an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development launched in 2009, identifies and showcases the innovative education projects that represent the best practices to educate the masses, says a press release. The award was given to six persons and institutions this year. BBC Janala is a part of English in Action, a major initiative launched to raise the language skills of 25 million people in Bangladesh by 2017, funded by the UK. People can learn English from the contents of BBC Janala's programmes on television, web, print media and mobile phones.
