Zillur lauds army
President Zillur Rahman yesterday appreciated the role of the country's armed forces for their contributions to nation-building activities alongside their regular duties.
The appreciation came when Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral ZU Ahmed and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman met him at Bangabhaban marking the Armed Forces Day.
“On this day in 1971”, the president said, “The Armed Forces of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force launched a united attack on the Pakistani occupation forces, accelerating our victory.”
He wished the gradual success as well as happiness, peace and prosperity of all members of the armed forces.
“November 21 is not mere a formality, it's an inspiration for the armed forces for advancement by upholding their bravery and pride,” he further said.
Zillur enquired the three chiefs about the wellbeing of the martyred families of the armed forces.
The chiefs of three services apprised the president of various ongoing development activities of the armed forces as well as the programmes taken across the country to observe the day.
Secretaries to the president's office were present.
