3 killed in road accidents
At least four people were killed and two injured in separate accidents in Chittagong, Dinajpur, Narail and Thakurgaon in the last two days.
A businessman was left spot dead as a Chittagong-bound covered van from the capital rammed his motorcycle on Chittagong-Dhaka highway at Kalu Shah Bridge area in Sitakunda upazila yesterday, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
The dead motorcyclist was Saddam Hossain Munna, 22, son of Nawab Miah, of the upazila.
Local sources said, following the incident, locals chased the van and set it ablaze. They also nabbed the driver and beat him and put barricade on the highway for an hour, sources added.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humaiyun Kabir of Bara Awlia Highway Police Station said, on information, police recovered the body and arrested the driver.
Meanwhile, fire fighters rushed to the spot and douse the fire.
A case was under process till filing the report at 12:30pm, said the OC adding that, the vehicle movement on the highway has resumed as before.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a speedy tractor trolley hit a sexagenarian while he was crossing the Jamalganj-Durgadah road in Joypurhat yesterday around 10:30am, said police quoting witnesses.
Locals rushed him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Dr MM Wales, a duty doctor there.
The deceased was Syam Hossain, 61, of the district's Sadar upazila.
Meantime, angry villagers caught the tractor trolley and set it ablaze.
Our Narail correspondent adds, a collision of two motorbikes left a motorcyclist dead and two other co-riders injured on Narail-Magura highway at Dhunda village in the district on Sunday around 5:30pm.
The deceased was Ferdous Rahman, 35, son of Azizar Mia of Lohagara upazila.
Following the accident, locals rushed Ferdous and two of his co-riders to Narail Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared the latter dead while his co-riders are undergoing treatment there.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, a man died a day after he was hit by a motorbike at Kamarpukur village in the district's Haripur upazila on Saturday, said police and locals.
Rahmat Ali, 50, son of Samsul Haque of the upazila, was brought to Rangpur Medical College Hospital following the accident where he died on Sunday at 5:30pm.
