HC for assessing thru' exclusion of 'erroneous' questions
The High Court yesterday asked the Dhaka University (DU) authorities to inform it by November 28 whether the answer sheets of the 'Ga' unit admission test can be assessed by excluding the six "erroneous" questions.
It also asked the DU authorities to inform it why they have decided to cancel the results of 'Ga' unit (business studies faculty) and hold a fresh test.
The court passed the order after hearing a writ petition challenging the DU authorities' decision on November 21 to cancel the results of the admission test and hold a fresh test on December 9.
The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain fixed November 28 for further hearing on the matter.
During the hearing, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that he would negotiate with the DU authorities for not proceeding with the admission of students in the business studies faculty until this issue is settled in court.
He also said that the court should know reasons behind taking decision by the DU authorities to cancel the result of 'Ga' unit admission test and to hold a fresh test
Twelve candidates, who qualified the admission test, filed the petition on November 22 seeking HC directives on the DU authorities to continue admission process on the basis of the result, which has already been published.
Petitioners' counsel Manzill Murshid yesterday prayed to the court to stay November 21 decision of the DU authorities and issue a rule upon the DU authorities to explain why the decision should not be declared illegal.
Barrister Fida M Kamal, an amicus curiae (a friend of court), told the court that it was possible to assess the questions since most of them are correct.

'Ga' unit admission test for 2011-12 session was held on October 28 and the result was published on October 31.
The university administration re-examined the answer sheets and published a fresh result on November 2 on account of a number of “incorrect answers” being shown as correct.
