Myanmar general Meets PM
Increasing connectivity stressed
The Myanmar Army Chief, Lt General Soye Wine, yesterday expressed his hope that Myanmar's existing friendly relations with Bangladesh would be strengthened further in the days to come.
General Soye said this when he along with a delegation met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Gono Bhaban in the morning.
PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.
Soye, who is the deputy commander-in-chief of Defence services and commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar, also discussed the increasing cooperation between the militaries of the two neighbouring countries.
Hasina said Bangladesh attaches top importance to maintaining friendly relations with all of its neighbours.
Praising Hasina's leadership, General Soye said it is good to see that true democracy is prevailing here in Bangladesh.
General Soye said he was delighted to meet the daughter of Bangladesh's Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
While discussing national and regional development, the premier and the Myanmar general stressed increasing connectivity between the two countries.
As the PM is scheduled to visit Myanmar in December, he said Myanmar's people, the government and army are eagerly waiting to welcome the Bangladesh premier.
“Your visit to Myanmar would take the relations between the two countries to a new height,” he said.
Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of Armed Forces Lt General Abdul Wadud and Press Secretary to the PM Abul Kalam Azad were present.
