Protest against Tipaimukh dam

Different organisations yesterday protested the attempt of constructing Tipaimukh dam on the Barak river at Tipaimukh in Manipur state of India. A long march to the Indian border at Zakiganj from Sylhet city would be organised on December 8 in protest, said former lawmaker Maulana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, also joint secretary-general of the central committee of Jamiat-e-ulema-e-Islam at a press conference in Sylhet Press Club yesterday. He also announced a fortnight long agitation programme, including procession and rallies in upazilas and in the district headquarters from November 24. Meanwhile, Sylhet Nagarik Adhikar Sangrakkhan Committee formed a human chain in the city's Court Point area in protest of constructing the dam.
