Bangladesh to be a model in S Asia
Says prime minister
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday hoped that Bangladesh would be a model country in the South Asian region as the government are hardly trying to build it free from corruption, terrorism and militancy.
She said the previous BNP-Jamaat government had looted huge money from the treasury and patronised "terrorism, militancy and corruption" in the country.
Hasina made the remark at a function after unveiling female dormitory, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall, on Rajshahi University (RU) campus.
She emphasised technology-based education for economic development of the country.
Urging students of all level to give much attention to studies, the prime minister said only educated people can build hunger, poverty and illiteracy free country.
Pointing out various programmes taken for female education, Hasina said the government has already upgraded education system to ensure quality of education.
The government has already introduced lower cost laptop, mobile and made available internet facilities as a part of digitalising Bangladesh, she said.
“We are trying to provide equal facilities for male and female students,” she said.
She urged teachers and students of the university to build themselves with quality education to help build Bangladesh as per the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The prime minister announced to allocate two new buses for the university and assured to connect intercity rail service at the university rail station.
Earlier, Prime Minister visited the graveyard of Prof Dr Shamsuzzoha in front of RU administrative building.
RU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) along with general students and other university unit political, social, cultural and voluntary organisations' leaders and activists welcomed the prime minister to the campus.
