Shamsur Rahman's wife dies

Jahura Rahman, wife of late poet Shamsur Rahman, died of old age complications in a city hospital at 5:20pm yesterday. She was 77. Jahura was undergoing treatment in incentive care unit of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital at Jhikatala since Wednesday. Her brother Mohammad Akber told The Daily Star that her namaz-e-janaza will be held at Shyamoli Shishupalli mosque after zohr prayers. She will be buried at her family graveyard in Begum Bazar in Old Dhaka, he said. She left behind one son, three daughters and grand sons and grand daughters. Hearing the death news of Johra, politicians, eminent citizens rushed to her Shyamoli residence last night. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad expressed deep shock at the death of Johra. In a condolence message, the prime minister conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Shamsur Rahman, the doyen of Bangla poetry, died on August 17, 2006.
