English language fair creates enthusiasm

Creating a unique fun-filled experience of learning English for the students, the English language fair kicked off at three more schools at Chittagong, Joypurhat and Mymensingh yesterday. The fair was jointly organised by The Daily Star, an English daily, and Robi, a telecom operator. The fair took off at Rangunia Model Multi-lateral Pilot High School in the port city's Rangunia upazila with the participation of more than 200 students of the school, our CU Correspondent reports. The school headmaster Md Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the programme while Robi Area Manager Md Zia attended as the chief guest. The fair started with the screening of the animation movie “The Lion King”. Later, students participated in many competitions and activities of learning English including vocabulary test, extempore speech, quiz competition and role play. An English language club was also formed at the fair. Prizes were distributed among the students at the programme's end. Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, the same fair was organised at the school complex of Pachbibi LBP High School at Pachbibi upazila in Joypurhat yesterday. More then 150 students of the school participated in the fair's activities. Md Nazrul Islam, headmaster of the school, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while Md Shajibul Hossain, Addcom coordinator (Rangpur region), was also present. Our Mymensingh correspondent adds, the students of Phulbaria Pilot High School also enjoyed the same fair at their school complex in the district's Phulbaria upazila yesterday. The school headmaster Md Abdul Hye attended the programme and was the judge of several competitions that took place there. Md Aminul Islam, The Daily Star correspondent in Mymensingh, distributed prizes among the winners. Winners of the competitions at the fair were Kishore Sushmit Utsab, Sheikh Farid Ahmed, Hriday Momen, Khairun Nahar Bristi, Tanzila Jahan Nishat, Asia Akhtar Shipa, Farzana Alam Dina, Zakaria Ahsan, Ahsan Ahmed, Sabrina Nasreen, Shakil, Mahbuba Akhtar, Habibur Rahman and Rifat Ahmed. Aiming to improve English proficiency of secondary level students, the fair will be arranged at 300 schools across the country with the coordination of the education ministry.
