Munier Chy's anniversary of birth today

Today is the 86th birth anniversary of martyred intellectual Prof Munier Chowdhury. Munier Chowdhury actively participated in the Language Movement in 1952 and was imprisoned by the then Pakistan government for his role in favour of the great independence of the country. Symbolic drama, Kabar (Grave), is one of his famous creations during his imprisonment. He is considered as the pioneer of modern drama in Bangladesh. Only two days before the end of the War of Liberation, he along with a large number of intellectuals were tortured to death by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators (Al-Badr and Al-Shams) on December 14, 1971. His body has not been traced yet. Mishuk Munier, who was killed recently in a road accident, was one of his children. On the occasion, 'Theatre', an organisation of theatre, will organise a function at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6:30pm today. Names of the winners' of Munier Chowdhury Award will be announced, and the awards will be handed over among the winners at the function.
