Students, Workers Clash in City
Road blocked for one hour
Students of Habibullah Bahar University College and workers of an under-construction building at Kakrail in the city locked into a clash blocking Malibagh-Kakrail road for an hour yesterday.
Locals said the clash erupted as three students of the college protested falling of a piece of tiles on a pedestrian from the 18-storey building of Future Group.
At one stage of the clash, the workers confined Adib Hossain, a student, in the building compound.
Hearing the incident, other students of the college rushed there and started hurling brick bats towards the building around 12:30pm while the workers also retaliated with brick chips and construction materials.
Vehicular movement on the road was suspended during the clash. Police brought the situation under control around 1:30pm.
Adib said he was beaten by the workers.
Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector Basiul Haq said they detained five men of the construction site including the project manager Gaziur Rahman and site engineer Tanvir Hossain for interrogation.
No student was arrested and no case was filed in this connection, he added.
