11 robbers held after gunfight in Chittagong
Police arrested 11 robbers after a gunfight in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong on Friday night.
Two of the robbers were hit by bullets while a constable was injured during the incident around 11:00pm at Madhyam Madarsha village of the upazila.
The arrestees are the members of an inter-division robbers' gang, said Md Babul Akter, assistant superintendent of police, Hathazari circle.
Police, led by ASP Babul, conducted a drive Madhyam Madarsha after receiving information that a gang of bandits were preparing to commit robberies in the village.
As soon as they entered the village, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate with bullets, police said.
After the half-an-hour-long gunfight, the law enforcers managed to arrest 11 robbers, including two with bullet wounds.
The injured robbers -- Nuruzzaman alias Jamal, 38, and Badiul Alam alias Abdul Haque alias Bodi, 28, of Chokoria upazila in Chittagong -- were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital under police custody.
The injured constable was rushed to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex.
The other arrestees are Rashid Ahmed, 36, Md Sikandar, 40, Md Syed Alam alias Alam, 22, and Md Jahangir Alam, 22, of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila, Md Nurul Azim, 30, Md Saddam Hossain, 24, Sirajul Haque, 26, and Md Joynal Uddin, 23, of Ramu upazila in Cox's Bazar and Md Khorshed Alam, 22, of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong.
Police recovered two light guns, one locally made rifle and 10 bullets from their possession.
