Punish killers of Zinnat
Demand rights bodies
Several social and rights bodies yesterday expressed their concern over the killing incident of freedom fighter Zinnat Ali by the stalkers of his daughter in Barisal and demanded punishment to the killers to stop recurrence of such incidents.
Samajik Protirodh Committee, a platform of 64 social organisations, in a press release, says the government should find out the causes behind stalking incidents as these crimes are on the rise.
Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) in a separate press release says if the administration concerned took steps in time the killing of Zinnat Ali could be checked.
On Friday, when Zinnat, also a high school teacher, was returning home from a market, stalker Rupam and his associate Mithu waylaid him in front of his house on MA Wahab Sarak and stabbed him. He died on the way to the capital.
Rupam Dey alias Anik, an extortionist and drug peddler in the Barisal city's Bazar Road area, used to stalk Zinnat's daughter, said Mainuddin Khan Ayub, a councillor of Barisal City Corporation.
Zinnat in August lodged a general dairy with Kawnia Police Station in connection with the stalking but police did not take any action.
