Case Against Babar
Hearing deferred for 17th time
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred for the 17th time the hearing on charge framing against former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar in a tax evasion case.
Judge Mohammad Rezaul Islam of the Fifth Special Judge's Court extended the date till January 17 next year after Babar's lawyer ABM Sharfuddin Khan Mukul submitted a petition seeking adjournment of the hearing.
Mukul in the petition said his client had filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) challenging legality of the case.
The HC issued a rule upon the government after the hearing to explain why the proceeding of the case should not be declared illegal.
Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, counsel for Babar, placed his argument before the HC on November 24 while the prosecution will make submission today.
