Judgment in the Humayun Kabir Sabbir murder case against Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir, son of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam, and four others will be delivered on December 15. The four others are Nure Alam and Humayun Kabir, security guards at Sabbir's house, Sanvir's bodyguard Khairul Hassan Ujjal and Shamsuddin Ahmed, a director of Bashundhara Housing Estate. Of them, Sanvir, Nure Alam and Humayun Kabir are still at large while Ujjal and Shamsuddin Ahmed are now on bail. The same court on January 9 this year issued warrants of arrest against Sanvir, Nure Alam and Humayun Kabir. After completion of arguments from both the prosecution and the defence yesterday, Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 set the date for delivery of the judgment in the case. Meanwhile, the judge cancelled the bail of Ujjal and Shamsuddin Ahmed and ordered that they be sent to jail. Sabbir, a director of Bashundhara Telecommunications Network Ltd, was brutally killed on July 5, 2006 and his body was found outside a building in the Bashundhara Residential Area in the city. Shah Alam gave Tk 21 crore as bribe to former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar to save his son from the murder charge. The bribery came to light after the CID started investigations into the murder. Sanvir is also the accused in several other cases, including one filed for giving the bribe.
