12 women awarded in four categories

The 12th Pran-Prothom Alo National Pickle Competition-2011 award giving ceremony was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Friday. A total of 12 women in four categories Sweet, Sour, Hot and Mixed, received the awards while 35 participants were awarded consolation prizes, said a press release. Afroza Salam of Dhaka won Tk two lakh as her pickle was adjudged the 'Pickle of the year'. Momena Khatun of Comilla, Nargis Amin of Dhaka and Afroza Akter of Khulna won first, second and third prizes respectively in 'Sour' category. Mahmuda Rubaiya of Rajshahi, Rabeya Khatun and Mahtabunnahar of Dhaka won first, second and third prizes respectively in 'Sweet' category. Hosne Ara Jahan, Sumaya Tahsin Nidhi and Marzina Alam of Dhaka won first, second and third prizes respectively in 'Hot' category. Dilruba Begum Fency of Rangpur, Nusrat Jahan and Rizia Sultana of Dhaka won first, second and third prizes respectively in 'Mixed' category. The first prize winner got Dhaka-Malaysia-Dhaka couple air ticket while the second got laptop computer and the third got IPS in each category. Prominent folk singer Farida Parvin handed over the awards. The Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and Pran-RFL Group Chief Executive Maj Gen (retd) Amjad Khan Chowdhury were present on the occasion. It is the 12th arrangement of Pran-Prothom Alo national pickle competition. More than 3,000 women, with more than 8,000 pickles, participated in the competition this year. A colorful cultural function was also held followed by the award giving ceremony where prominent singers and artistes performed.
