AL betrayed martyred intellectuals through one-party rule: BNP
The BNP leaders yesterday said the ruling Awami League betrayed the martyred intellectuals by establishing a one-party rule which disregards democracy and destroys the spirit of the War of Liberation.
“The Razakar and Al-Badr played a main role in killing the intellectuals to cripple the emerging nation intellectually after sensing the defeat of the Pakistani forces.
“The big question is why these killers were not tried after the War of Liberation,” they said at a discussion organised by BNP at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was in the chair.
Moudud Ahmed said, “AL destroyed everything by establishing a one-party rule though it claims to be a pro-liberation force. The spirit of the War of Liberation will be brought back by establishing democracy through a tougher movement.”
Fakhrul said the spirit of the Martyred Intellectuals' Day will be established by ousting the AL-led government from power through a mass upsurge.
“The country is in a deep crisis. National unity is under threat due to the government's efforts to establish a one-party rule. We have to overcome this situation through a movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia,” he said.
MK Anwar said those who pardoned the identified war criminals after the War of Liberation must be tried before holding the trial for crimes against humanity.
