The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday issued notice to former BNP whip Shahidul Huq Jamal for submitting wealth statement. Earlier an ACC task force found the former whip possessing illegal wealth worth crores of taka and included him in the list of corruption suspects. However office staff of Barisal ACC returned from Labonsara under Banaripara upazila in Barisal district, the village address of Zamal, as there was nobody to receive the notice. Now a special messenger will send the notice to Zamal's Dhaka address, Barisal ACC sources said. The ACC in January 23 meeting held in Dhaka decided to issue notice for wealth statement of Jamal and the ACC official in charge of Barisal office was directed on January 27 to send it to Jamal. After receiving the order on January 30, Barisal ACC office on Sunday issued that notice to Jamal under Section 5 of Anti-corruption Act and sent it to Banaripara on Sunday, Barisal ACC sources said. Jamal's properties as found by the ACC task force include several acres of land in Dhaka, Barisal, Banaripara and Labonsara, and industry and business enterprises valued cores of taka. Jamal owns two luxurious houses at Mogbazar in Dhaka, one at cantonment area, one at Barisal and two at Banaripara. He also owns Kohinoor Spinning Mill situated on 32 acres of land at Savar and three luxuries cars and three speedboats. ACC's primary investigation revealed that valuation of properties owned by Jamal and his family members exceed Tk 150 crore and it is likely to be much more when the investigation completes. Besides, there are allegations of corruption and irregularities in conducting Bangladesh Red Crescent Society during his tenure as chairman and misappropriation and nepotism in distributing relief items.
