Arms factory found in Bagerhat, 2 held

Police unearthed an arms factory Sunday afternoon at Sonakhali Bazar in Morrelganj upazila of Bagerhat district. Six home-made guns, one revolver, 108 live cartridges and bullets and three sacks of arms making materials were recovered from there. Police arrested its owner Enayet Khan and his partner Masum Khan. Officer-in-Charge Babul Akhter of Morrelganj police station who led the operation yesterday said that arrestees are traders of illegal arms. They had been supplying arms to extremists and pirates in the Sundarbans from a long time. Extremists in south-western region of the country are their main buyers, the OC said. The factory has been sealed and kept under police guard. During primary interrogation, the two arrestees disclosed names of others involved in arms making extremists who bought those, the OC said. Drives have been launched to net them, he said. Bagerhat Police Superintendent Shahidur Rahman said more information will be available when the two would be taken on remand. A petition was submitted to court yesterday seeking their seven-day remand, the SP said.
