Our Correspondent, Satkhira
Tension is mounting at Norarchak in Debhata upazila as landless people are determined not to leave the water body (khas land) they occupied on January 17 while the lessees are trying to evict them with the help of local administration. Satkhira district law and order committee following their January 19 meeting had asked the occupiers to vacate the 1500-bigha land. The landless people recently submitted a prayer to Deputy Commissioner Md Kefayetullah urging him to distribute the khas land among the landless people as per a High Court directive issued in 1982. Over 4,000 landless people under the banner of Debhata Upazila Landless People's Samity, who occupied the land on January 17, started residing there by making over 1000 makeshifts huts.
