Road crashes kill 9, injure 62
Nine people were killed and 62 others injured in separate road accidents in Pabna, Noakhali, Bagerhat, Habiganj, Jessore, Tangail and Narail early Saturday and yesterday.
Our Pabna correspondent reports: Three persons, including two siblings, were killed and six others injured as a tank-lorry hit a Kariman (three-wheeler) at Kath-Badamtoli in Chatmohar upazila on Saturday evening.
The deceased are Rahima Khatun, 9, and Mainul Islam, 7, children of Rafikul Islam and Shagotam Chandra Das, 19, son of Nimai Chandra Das of village Jogtala in the upazila.
Mainul and Rahima died on the spot while Shagotam on the way to the capital.
Of the injured, Aduri Khatun, 21, Monirul Islam, 27, Rafikul Islam, 30, Robiul Islam, Idris Ali, 55, were admitted to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex.
In Noakhali, father was killed instantly and his son injured seriously when a passenger bus rammed their motorbike on Chaumuhani-Laxmipur road at Chandraganj Purbabazar in Begumganj upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased is Sawkat Ali Majnu, 45, of village Khilpara in Chatkhil upazila, while his injured son Shehab Uddin, 10.
Shehab was rushed to Noakhali Medical College Hospital.
UNB from Bagerhat adds: Jewel Sheikh, 25, son of Delwar Sheikh of Gozalia village in Morelganj upazila, was killed and 40 others were injured as a bus overturned at Pingoria in Kachua upazila yesterday morning.
The injured were admitted to the sadar hospital and different clinics.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet says: A pick-up van ran over a minor boy on Habiganj-Madna road at Bhabanipur village in Lakhai upazila in Habiganj, killing him on the spot yesterday afternoon.
The dead is Sajib Das, son of Shushanta Das, of the village in the same upazila.
Our Benapole correspondent reports: Rozina Begum, 35, wife of Atiar Rahman Khan of Lokkhinathkati village in Keshabpur upazila, died instantly as her sari got tangled with the tyre of a speeding Karimon at Kanaitala in the upazila in Jessore yesterday morning.
Rozina was strangled as her sari got wrapped around her neck, said police.
In another incident, motorcyclist Sohel Rana, 18, a college student and son of Shafiqul Islam of Hashadanga village in Monirampur upazila, died on the spot when a human hauler hit his bike on Keshabpur-Jessore road at Chatiantola in Keshabpur upazila in Jessore on Saturday night.
In Tangail, Bangabandhu Bridge toll official Shariful Islam, 30, of Garagar village in Palang upazila in Shariatpur was injured severely as a truck ran over him while he was crossing the bridge approach road at the east end of the bridge yesterday.
He succumbed to his injuries at Tangail General Hospital on arrival.
In Narail, at least 10 people were injured as a Nasimon (three-wheeler) fell into a roadside ditch at Dumurtala in the sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Eight of the injured are Emarul, 18, Kader, 30, Tarik, 26, Rojit, 20, Chanchal, 30, Aminur Rahman, 18, Sujon Biswas, 18, Alamgir, 24.
In another incident, a Nasimon plunged into a roadside ditch at New Bus Terminal in the sadar upazila leaving at least five people severely injured.
Of them, Sukumar Biswas, 45, were taken to Narail Sadar Hospital.
