Misdeeds by a few cannot defame police force
IGP suspends two following allegation at open house day in Sylhet
Inspector General of Police Noor Mohammad yesterday said crimes have declined after introduction of community policing. “However, we are yet get a big change in the over all situation because police could not yet become friends of the commonman though their uniform, vehicles and arms have been changed over the years”, he said.
“Police was not allowed to work independently during last 36 years”, the IGP said.
“Police had masters. Those days are over. Now is the time for them to work with professionalism in real sense”, Noor Mohammad said.
He was addressing 'open house day' programmes at Sylhet Kotwali police station and at Gowainghat police station.
“Police will no longer shoulder the responsibility of misdeeds by a few. Process has already been started, actions taken and many lost their jobs”, he added.
He called upon all to raise protest against any wrongdoing by any policeman and lodge complaint with higher officials.
There has been changes after 1/11. “Each and every allegation against any policeman will be looked into properly”, Noor Mohammad said.
As one Haji Rais Uddin of the city's Ambarkhana area raised a serious allegation against the former OC and a sub Inspector of Sylhet Kotwali police station, the IGP ordered suspension of the two policemen.
Rais Uddin alleged that the then OC and an SI implicated him in a women repression case falsely as he caught an accused in an extortion case and brought him to the police station.
The accused was feed and he was put behind the bar, Rais Uddin alleged at the open house day programme.
Rais Uddin alleged that he had remain in jail hajat for 18 days as he angered the two police officials.
Some other people also raised allegations. The IGP ordered immediate investigation into those.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Harun Ur Rashid Khan, Sylhet Range DIG Abdus Salam Khan, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiq Uddin Ahmed, Sylhet Bar Association secretary Ruhul Anam Chowdhury Mintu, Sylhet Chamber's senior vice-president Nasim Hossain also spoke, among others.
