Ensure bumper Boro crop in Sylhet region
Rasheda urges officials
Advisor for women affairs Rasheda K Chowdhury yesterday asked officials to make available fertiliser and other facilities to farmers to ensure a bumper production of Boro in the entire Sylhet region.
This is the lone rice crop on which depends availability of food in the low-lying region, she said.
There is no alternative to that, she added asking agriculture officials to ensure irrigation facility. The government is closely monitoring the situation, she said.
The advisor was addressing a view exchange meeting with the district officials at Sylhet. Officials of Water Development Board (WDB), Agriculture Extension DEpartment, Palli Bidyut Samity, and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) also spoke at the meeting held at the Circuit House while Deputy Commissioner Harun ur Rashid Khan in the chair.
Since the financial year is nearing its end, the advisor asked officials for speedy implementation of ADP 9annual development programme) so that funds are not returned.
She also asked for preparing a statement on vacant posts in different government departments and educational institutions within a week.
The meeting was informed that Tk 6 crore was sanctioned this year for post-flood rehabilitation programme in Sylhet district.
