Police seized spurious medicines and machinery worth about Tk 50 lakh from a clandestine medicine factory in Pabna Sadar upazila and on Sunday night. Following a tip, a team led by Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police station Md Iqbal Safi raided the factory at the residence of Jalal Uddin of village Kuthipara and seized over 750 packets of fake 'Indromoxin' (antibiotic group) capsules and over one lakh pieces of loose capsules of the same group. During the drive that continued the whole day yesterday, police also recovered huge manufacturing machine, filling machine, packing machine etc, from two or three rooms where the fake medicines were manufactured, police said, adding that the recovered machines would be worth about Tk 40 lakh. Jalal Uddin was manufacturing the medicine specially the capsules of renowned companies for a long time, police said, adding that the spurious medicines were sold in the local area as well as Dhaka and different parts of the country. Syndicates might be involved in such acts, Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Police Station Md Iqbal Safi told this correspondent yesterday. “Investigation is going on. We will continue operation to nab the culprits,” Superintendent of Police AFM Masum Rabbani said. Jalal went to jail in 2000 for trading spurious medicine, sources said.
