Barapukuria mine workers call off strike
Agitating Bangladeshi workers of Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Ltd (BCMCL) have finally withdrawn their 66 hours strike following acceptance of their seven-point demand.
Coalmine authority, the contracting company CMC and agitated miners reached an agreement yesterday evening, BCMCL officials said.
The meeting started at BCMCL conference room yesterday noon to resolve problem due to the mineworkers' unrest that had been hampering coal extraction since Friday midnight.
After six-hour-long negotiation between agitating mineworkers and officials of BCMCL, CMC and XMC, the miners agreed to withdraw their strike and attend their work from last night, coalmine sources said.
As per the agreement signed between mineworkers, BCMCL authorities and coalmine contracting company CMC, the underground mineworkers from now on will get Tk 110--200 each working day instead of Tk 70--150 earlier.
Earlier on February 5, the Bangladeshi miners of BCMCL started their indefinite strike pressing the mine authorities to meet their seven-point demand.
