Temples in Puthia

Some historically significant constructions have made Puthia a royal village in Bangladesh. It has added to the solemnity of Bengali heritage, and exhibits the brightest past of the northern outskirts of Bangladesh. Puthia, though a small village, has a place in the important pages of our history due to its amazing monuments like Govinda Temple, which was constructed between 1823 and 1895 by one of the Maharanis of the Puthia estate. The metaphorical Siva Temple at the entrance of Puthia is a magnificent and brilliant example of the five-spire Hindu style of temple architecture common in northern India. It is bejewelled with stone carvings and sculptural works, which unfortunately were disfigured during the War of Liberation. Now, both the temples need conservation and protection. Puthia is only 23km from Rajshahi.
