Tk 6 cr touchstone statute recovered in Tangail
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have recovered a touchstone statute of Vishnu worth about Tk 6 crore from a village in Gopalpur upazila, Rab sources said.
The 15 kilogram black statue was recovered from the house of Omar Ali at Bhutia village on Thursday, they said. Omar was immediately arrested after recovery of the statue. On interrogation, he said that he had found the statue two years ago while digging a pond near his house.
Earlier, on information, Rab arrested a Bangladeshi expatriate in Sweden named Sarwar Alam Jahangir at Hajipara village as he wanted to buy the statue from Omar at Tk 50,000.
Later, Rab arrested two others in this connection. They are Abdur Razzak of Jangalia village in Madhupur upazila and Paritosh Sarkar of Betdoba village in Kalihati upazila.
All the arrestees were handed over to police afterwards.
