Reference is made to an article published in a daily newspaper.
I am an Italian Tour Operator and Travel Consultant and am touring Bangladesh since the 3rd of January and had a different welcome in St. Martin's island. I was lodged in a Guest house, recommended by the local Director of Water Disaster Department and while out for dinner, somebody entered my room, broke the lock of my luggage and took, money and credit cards, causing me to cut short my stay in the Republic and return home.
Both Police in St. Martin's and Cox's Bazar, after a week of investigation were unable to come to a positive conclusion. It appears this is not the first case of robbery along the coast, where foreign tourists are targeted.
I shall still recommend to my clients a short visit to Bangladesh but infrastructures and security are matters to be attended as an priority if a sound tourist programme is to be developed. As a trivial example, banks in Cox's Bazar do not exchange Euro, in St. Martin's you would not find , apart from coconuts a simple fruit, such apples, orange etc.... no money exchange, of course, no electricity, hence no fridge facilities etc.... I do not wish to comment further on other places visited.
