One to die, 22 to serve life-term for murder
A Rajshahi court yesterday gave death sentence to one person and life-term imprisonment to 22 others in the case for murdering Shafiuddin in Godagari upazila in 1996.
Death sentenced Rafikul Islam of Kalidaspur Chhatianpara was also fined Tk 10,000.
Life-term given convicts includes Omar Ali, Enamul, Shafikul, Nazrul Islam, Mobarak Fazlul Haq, and Nasir of same area.
Among other convicts, Hazrat Ali, Abdul Bari, Arman Ali, Abul Kalam, Gias and Badar Ali were given additional three years imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000 each while Ibrahim, Anwarul, Ziarul, Manur Ali, Dulal, Taslim, Nesar, Hasiruddin and Maidul were sentenced to one more year for other charges.
The life-term and other sentences will start simultaneously, goes the verdict delivered by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge Rasheda Sultana was delivering the verdict.
Shafiuddin of Kalidaspur Chhatianpara was killed on December 28 in 1996 following a violence long-standing dispute over the land of a local club -- Juba Unnayan Sangha.
