Our police
After making the EC, ACC, PSC and the judiciary independent, now it is time to make the police personnel accountable directly to the people, not to the corrupt politicians any more!! How? Just imagine a police force similar to the US style. Yes, it is a city based concept. For Bangladesh, due to population density it should be narrowed down to ward level or Thana level. The local police force personnel are to be recruited from the local area (100% locally grown). So recomposed/restructured and deployed at the Thana/ward level, they will be directly responsible to the "Community Police Watch Team " whose chairman will be local ward commissioner/ chairman and the other members will be locally elected (permanent residents of the area). The recruitment team within the "Community Police Watch Team" will have equal representation from both ruling and opposition parties to oversee a fair recruitment process. Who pays the cost? Initially it will be paid by the government but later (after 5 years), it should be managed by the local ward/Thana resources (Revenues collected locally for this purpose). Benefits: 1) People can no longer blame the govt for law and order situation. 2) The politicians cannot use the police force for their own interest. Another blow to the easy money making profession!! But corrupt politicians will go vehemently against this proposition and, as such, this will never be implemented!!
