Satkhira college students vow to resist corruption

It was different scene on the premises of Satkhira Government Women's College as over 300 female students in a unique oath taking ceremony yesterday vowed to root out corruption from the society. Sachetan Nagarik Committee (Conscious Citizens' committee), a === chapter of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organised the ceremony on the college premises as part of their campaign to create awareness among the teachers and students against corruption. Speakers at the function urged all sections of people, especially the youth and students, to come forward to root out corruption, which is acts as a barrier to economic development end prosperity of the country. Making the country corruption-free is a must for the development of Bangladesh as an emerging nation, they said. They said widespread corruption is threatening development in the country. Black money holders are now controlling politics sidelining the veteran and devoted politicians and this trend should be stopped as corruption in politics leads to corruption in administration, they said. Dr Dilara Begum, Vice Principal of Satkhira Government Wmen's College, administered the oath-taking ceremony where students vowed to fight corruption unitedly for overall development of the country. They promised not to get involved in corruption, neither to tolerate the ill-practice. Satkhira district chapter convenor of Sachetan Nagarik Committee advocate Tapan Kumar, also public prosecutor in Satkhira District and Sessions Judge's Court, inaugurated the campaign on the college premises. Advocate Afsana Sharmin Mitu, Mainur Rahman, Rebeka Sultana, Shajahan Hossain Saju, and TIB Assistant Programme Officer Mohammad Abdur Rahim spoke, among others, on the occasion.
