UP chairman shot dead in Jhenidah
Criminals shot dead a union parishad (UP) chairman at Kaluhati Bagdipara near Shailmari Bazaar under Jhenidah Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased, Sharafat Hossain, 55, was chairman of Ganna UP under Jhenidah Sadar upazila.
Sharafat was coming to Shailmari Bazaar on a van from his UP office at around 2.30 pm when masked criminals on a motorbike waylaid him and sprayed him with bullets, said locals and police.
Locals rushed him to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Jahar Ali, 35, who was also on the van, got serious bullet injuries during the incident.
Earlier on several occasions, attempts were made on the life public representative, resulting in his injuries.
