Utilisation of $130 million
Kudos to the great benevolent! No doubt the $130 million donation by the anonymous philanthropist, mainly intended for rehabilitation and reconstruction of primary schools in the worst Sidr-affected areas, is great news for Bangladesh. But I'm sorry to say that I have doubts about proper utilisation of this big amount of money.
Needless to say, mismanagement on a large-scale project is commonplace, at least to some extent. But if the extent becomes unbearable, much to the glee of the corrupt incumbents, it will be a great disgrace on our part. We strongly expect that the CTG won't let the corrupt to take away this money and will leave no stone unturned to make the best use of it. Yet, apprehension remains when it comes to the next elected government. The intended projects are not likely to be completed within the current CTG's tenure and may span over the next elected government's tenure. Taking the “superb” performance of past governments into account, who can say that our virtuosos in the art of corruption won't loot the remaining portion of this money after the CTG hands over power.
Nevertheless, we hope for the best. After all, it's our optimism that keeps us moving ahead.
