As a maverick keeper, this dashing cricketer at 36 has reached the milestone of making a new world record with his 414 dismissals (377 catches, 37 stumpings). Gilly as a ball-crane, with his bat, made 5,556 runs in Tests at an average of 47.89 with 17 Gilly-trademark centuries to his name. He scored the second fastest century in Test cricket(57 balls). He played some outstanding Test innings that are, and will remain, unique. His one day-express runs were really sizzling to watch, and his one-day record speaks of a genius of a rare kind. He played 277 matches, as opener, and scored 9297 runs at an average of 36.03 with a strike rate of 96%, along with 15 rocking centuries ( highest 172). Gilchrist scaled the height of one of the greatest players of the game for his revolutionizing the role of " wicket keeping cum batting" in a way that is exclusively his own!
