Five killed in road accidents

Five people, including a garment worker, were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Barisal, Chittagong and Sirajganj on Saturday and yesterday. Our staff correspondent reports, garment worker Parvin Begum, 28, was killed and another injured as a pick-up hit them while they were crossing the road in the capital's Uttara area around 4:45pm yesterday. Injured Yasmin Begum, 25, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, Abdur Razzak, 60, of Joypurhat, died when a bus ran him over in Motijheel area around 11:30am yesterday. In Barisal, a coach hit Morsheda Begum, 31, wife of Mohsin Mia, while she was crossing Barisal-Dhaka highway in Shikarpur area of Uzirpur upazila early yesterday, killing her instantly. Agitating people blocked the highway for about an hour at noon. In Chittagong, an unidentified woman died as an unknown vehicle hit her near Laldighi area in the city on Saturday night. In Sirajganj, bus helper Sohag Alam, 16, hailing from Tangail, died after the bus crushed him in Mirpur Mahalla of the town yesterday afternoon. Police said the bus driver, after taking fuel from a petrol pump, started the vehicle, killing the helper instantly as he was under the bus to check its wheels.
