Court Correspondent

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear at a Dhaka court today in connection with the Zia Charitable Trust graft case, her counsel has confirmed. The court is scheduled for delivering an order today as to whether it would accept charges against Khaleda and three others in the case. The BNP chief last attended the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on February 2 and secured permanent bail in the case. Later on five consecutive dates, she did not appear for different reasons. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on August 8, 2011 with Tejgaon Police Station, accusing four people including Khaleda for abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources. The other accused are Harris Chowdhury former political secretary of Khaleda; Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) of Harris; and Monirul Islam Khan, APS of former Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka. Harris has been on the run since filing of the case. Khaleda will attend the court at 1:00pm, Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, one of her counsels, told The Daily Star yesterday. This is going to be the seventh time that Khaleda would appear at different Dhaka courts in person since 1999.
